Do I Have To Have a Skip Permit?

If you want the skip on the road, then yes, there’s no real way around a skip permit…unless you want to face the wrath of the council officials! However, we do offer a “wait and load” – which is when the skip driver arrives with the skip of your choice and waits for 30 mins (or longer if you agree to the waiting time price) while you, and whoever is helping you, fills the skip. (If you ask nicely, the driver might be able to get his hands dirty too and help!)

This service has two benefits:

1) Because you only get the skip for 30 mins or so, you don’t have to fork out more money for a skip permit

2) You get the job done quickly, and all the waste is off your hands!

Have a chat with one of the Topskips guys about the best plan of action for you and your waste…ring us on 08445 60 77 10.

Skip Hire London – What is a skip permit?

Quite simply, a skip permit is permission from the local council to allow us to drop a skip on their highway.

The main bulk of our skip permit ordering is for London. This is not only because London is our busiest area for skip hire but also because the city is so densely built up, so there’s not a lot of private land going spare. Therefore most of our London skip hire customers always ask if we can sort out a permit. Most of the time, it’s fine but with some councils (stand up Wandsworth!) demand that the hirer – (you) – organises the permit with them. Price-wise, they can range from £25 to amounts in the triple figures, depending on whether it is in a Controlled Parking Zone, or if it is in a park bay which needs to be suspended etc. It’s a bit of a pain and it’s seems like an unnecessary amount of money to spend. However, if we drop a skip on the highway without a permit (which of course, we wouldn’t do!), the penalties are much worse…

Ring us today and find out more about skip permits in your area on 08455 6o 77 10.

Skip Hire In London

Just a reminder that we cover the whole of London from Cockfosters to Tooting and from Acton to Walthamstowe.

In fact skip hire in London is our busiest and most popular bit of the UK for skip hire, whether it’s for domestic or trade skip hire.

One thing that crops up in London more than anywhere else is the need for skip permits. With it being the capital city, and the way the city has been built, driveways on domestic properties are not as common, so this increases the need for to obtain a skip permit.

Give Topskips a call if you have any questions on skip hire or skip permits in London on 0844 560 7710.

What is a skip hire permit?

You’re asking the right people! From John O’Groats to Land’s End, we have skip hire permits just about covered.

A permit is permission off the local council to allow skips on their public highway. So if you’re a householder who needs a skip for the week but doesn’t have a piece of private land like a driveway to put the skip on, then a permit must be applied for. Most of the time, the skip company can organise the paperwork for you. However, some councils (All Scottish councils for example) demand the hirer of the skip organises the permit. And the bad news is, it costs money. If you’re lucky, your local council will just charge an administration fee around £10. However some councils, (stand up, Wandsworth council in London!) can charge over a hundred pounds.

And if you think you can get away without applying for one, think again. Council workers survey the streets on a daily basis looking for skips that haven’t been registered with a permit, and the fines that follow if they see a skip without a permit are steep, to say the least. One company in Sheffield was charged £1500 recently for this very offence!

If you need skip hire with a permit, ring Topskips on 0844 560 7710 to discuss your options.

Help Us Cut Skip Permit Charges

Did you know that skip hire permit charges range from zero to a WHOPPING £94, depending on where you live?
You may be interested in Topskips campaign to get the costs of skip hire permits down.
We see them as a tax on poorer people, as well as a misguided way of raising revenue (leaving skip hire companies as unpaid tax collectors) for local authorities.
