Annual global waste anticipated to increase by 7% each year – could skip hire help?

Globally, the volume of waste currently generated is expected to increase by 7% year-on-year, with countries in the developed world already spending approximately $270bn (£167.3bn) a year on waste management.

These figures show how detrimental the impact of rubbish can be on society and the environment, as well as the public purse.

UK Government figures revealed that in 2010 a total of 23.4m tonnes of household waste was generated, accounting for 10% of all waste.

With these shocking rates and failure of waste management so far, could skip hire be the answer?

All waste could be thrown into the skips and then sorted at a recycling centre – this would help with the problem of waste.

With increased importance now given to recycling in the UK, new and current methods to achieve the UK’s recycling targets
are high on the government’s agenda.

The amount of recyclable waste produced needs to be disposed of correctly to continually help recycling targets improve.

Waste recycling via skip hire, whether for domestic or commercial purposes offers the most convenient solution to those requiring disposal of large amounts of waste which becomes the responsibility of the waste management or skip hire company to recycle responsibly at a local recycling facility.

Chessington pub owner calls for recycling skip hire in Kingston

A pub owner is appealing to the local council to provide recycling services to businesses in the area in a bid to help them go green.

It has been revealed that The Cricketer pub in Chessington throws away 14 bin bags’ worth of recyclable rubbish and up to 1,000 glass bottles a week. With a huge amount of waste created, the use of recycling skip hire in Kingston could be extremely beneficial to businesses across the area.

However, Kingston Council does not have a recycling service for businesses. Owner of the family-run pub Tony Howe said: “It just doesn’t make any sense that the council doesn’t want to get involved with recycling as it is so big right now.”

Bins unemptied in Bolton – is skip hire the answer?

Hundreds of bins were left unemptied in Bolton after a rubbish truck broke down for the second time this year.

Households across more than 60 roads in Chew Moor, Westhoughton, as well as some from Church Street, did not have their green wheelie bins collected on the designated day of Monday.

Bolton Council bosses have said that some bins were collected on Tuesday and Wednesday when vehicles were sent back out.

Residents in the affected may have to use skip hire to clear the waste that is left over.

Cambridgeshire school signs up to the Skips for Schools programme

A primary school in Ely, Cambridgeshire has become one of the first schools to sign up to a new recycling challenge.

Lantern Community Primary School is taking part in the Skips for Schools Programme in a bid to promote the importance of recycling.

By taking part, schools are donated skips for a week which allows pupils, their families and staff to dispose of paper and metal-based recyclable waste correctly.

The skips will then be taken away, the contents recycled and then turned it into cash, with the school receiving a share of the money generated.

The challenge also involves a ‘design a skip’ art competition for children.
