Skip hire industry acknowledges a new form of recycling

A UK provider of recycling and environmental technology based in Cambridge have recently attracted some fresh backing for the commercialisation of its technology for the recycling of plastic and aluminium laminate packaging.

Here, at the heart of our busy skip hire head office we were interested to find out that a syndicate of investors have just secured the deal including Cambridge Enterprise, (the university’s commercialised arm) along with business angels from both Cambridge Capital Group and Cambridge Angels.

Though The Cambridge University syndicate have declined to reveal the exact amount raised it is believed to be some serious Wonga!

Thus far plastic/aluminium laminate packaging has been non recyclable; the company’s patented technology offers a new recycling route. This new technology segregates the material into its constituent components providing clean aluminium that can be used as fuel or chemical feedstock.

A recycled recycling bin – now that’s a bright idea

There are some waste disposal ideas that are so innovative you wonder why no one’s ever thought of it before.

Take, for instance, the story of a student project in America which saw a recycling bin created entirely from used cans and bottles.

The items were bound together to fashion a colourful container, according to the Macon Telegraph.

And what’s more, it’s thought that the innovation will be rolled out across campuses in the Hall County region.

The Joy of Recycling

We love recycling at Topskips.com, almost as much as we love Nick Park. Check out this claymation video I found.

Skip Hire – The Good Side and The Bad Side

recycle

Remember, Topskips makes sure all waste emptied into their waste skips is recycled as much as possible. However, there are somethings that cannot be recycled, even if we try our hardest. Some plastics, for example. In this case, we have no alternative to send it to landfill, but over 80% of your waste lives on to tell another tale. Our approach to waste makes a significant change to landfill rates – long may it continue!

Skip Hire – What Happens to My Waste After My Skip Is Collected?

The contents of your skip hire doesn’t end when you throw it in. After your skip is collected, the waste is carried back to the material recycling plant and separated. These separated waste streams are carted off to be recycled. There are some materials that are difficult or impossible to recycle – these items have to be taken to landfill, but we make this the last possible option. We recycle as mch as humanly possible!

Book your skip from Topskips – and do your bit for the environment – on 08445 60 77 10.

I’m Doing a Garden Clearout – What Size Skip Do I Need?

We get a lot of people ringing in unsure of what skip size is best for their garden clearout. It all depends on how big your garden is!

If you are lucky enough to have a big garden, then we would recommend an 8 cu yd builderskip. This is 12′ long and 5’6″ wide and is one of our most popular skips. If it sounds too big, think about how big your waste is going to be. Things like bushes and shrubbery can often be really bulky and may not weigh that much but will have take up a lot of space with their branches.

However if you have a small garden, we’d recommend our 4 cu yd midi skip. This is 6′ long and 4′ 3″ wide. It’s always best to go for a skip that might be little bigger than necessary – you never know what you’ll dig up!

And of course, all garden waste is recycled – so you can fill the skip knowing that none of it will go near a landfill tip.

Give our skip experts a ring on 08445 60 77 10 to book a skip for those jobs that you’ve been putting off all year…!
