Hell Hath No Fury Like A Man City Fan Scorned

Today was the day that saw Manchester skip hire meet Carlos Tevez. A 10 tonne skip wagon rolled in to Etihad Stadium to encourage City fans to chuck out their Tevez shirts. The striker has ruffled fans’ feathers after repeated requests to leave the club, dented civic pride by calling Manchester “small and wet” with “no decent restaurants”, and riled manager Roberto Mancini by refusing to play a game against Bayern Munich last month.

So, Mancunians have come out in force with their old Tevez shirts (which don’t come cheap either, Carlos) to chuck them in the skip, (I’m hazarding a guess that it’s a 16 yarder). A lesson to the world: don’t mess with a Manc – they’ll set their skips on you.

Could skip hire in Manchester eliminate fly-tipping problem?

Are you sick of seeing rubbish strewn on the streets of our towns and cities?

Skip Hire Manchester

We hired out a skip to a customer who was after skip hire Manchester, who asked for it to be placed in his front garden as he was doing some groundwork on the front yard. So far, so simple.

We then got a call from a neighbour saying the whole skip full of garden waste was up in flames. Fire engines were called and the fire was doused, but all was left was a blackened shell-like, warped skip; a shadow of its former self and pretty much useless.

The client admitted full liability (we had told him no fires were to be held in the skip) and he paid the costs, but it’s a good lesson. However much a good idea setting fire to the waste in a skip may seem, it’s not allowed. Skips aren’t fireproof, and the chances of setting fore to something dangerous is high.

Unlike London, where skip prices fluctuate quite a lot through out the city, skip hire prices in Greater Manchester stay pretty much the same throughout. Although in the north part in Rochdale and Oldham, prices are among the lowest in the country and provide the base price on the Topskips website.
Manchester is split into 10 boroughs: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan.

As the first industrial city in the world, and constantly renewing and rebuilding, Manchester has a big need for skips both in the centre and out in the suburbs.
Since the IRA bombing in 1996, the council have refused for skips to be dropped in the city centre over security fears. As a result, wait and load services are favoured as a way of disposing of waste in the city.
When a skip is placed on a highway, a permit is required. Each borough charges a different price. Manchester, Bolton, Salford and Stockport charge £20. Bury charges £25. Trafford charges £35 while Oldham, Tameside and Rochdale come out the cheapest at £13, £8 and £5 respectively. The discrepancy in prices between councils remains unclear. But if these permits are not applied for, serious penalties from the local authorities ensue. However, the permit process is among the easiest in the UK, with just a phone call and payment over the phone, permits can be obtained within a few minutes. It is the skip company’s responsibility – and not the customer’s – to make sure the permit is in place before the siting of the skip. Your skip will need to be lit and coned. As in most cities, skip hire is cheaper in Manchester than in surrounding, more rural areas like Cheshire, Derbyshire and parts of Lancashire. This is because of the haulage involved – haulage takes up a big part of the price of skip hire. The imminent congestion zone, which is mirroring Ken Livingstone’s scheme in London, will add extra on to skip hire costs if delivery is in the congestion threshold. The precise zone has yet to be confirmed but charges will be an extra £1 – £5 depending on your location.
