Skip Hire Harrogate
News just in on the skip hire Harrogate front – councils have now changed their skip permits from being FREE to £15 – this is one of the last councils that were not charging for skip permits. Unfortunately, they’ve caught on to the fact that they can charge and so are doing. Skip permits are an unfair charge – and one that we would like to see reducing, if not disappear.

Skip Permits
We have to admit it – we don’t like skip permits. They’re – on most occasions – an unnecessary tax – and with permits costs fluctuating all over the UK with different application times and permit duration lengths, you can’t help but think that councils are, well, making it up as they go along…
In a nutshell, a skip permit is permission off the council to put a skip on the public highway. That’s fine – permission makes sense to us, or else there would be skips littering the highways across the country (we know how tricky the school run is already!). However some councils charge nothing for permission (yay!) other councils charge hundreds of pounds (yes, we’re thinking of you Borough of Lambeth in London) and make us skip companies and you the hirer of the skip jump through hoops in order to get hold of one.

Skip Hire in Manchester
Someone needed skip hire in Manchester yesterday but made a grave error – they told us that the skip was going on private land. We arrived there this morning, there was no private land. This means one thing and one thing only – problems with the council. All councils across the UK demand that if a skip goes on a road – it needs a skip permit. So unfortunately we had to charge the customer extra – we had to pass the charge on to the customer.

Skip Permits
Don’t get stressed about skip permits – we do the legwork for you. Most councils allow us to apply for the paperwork for you, however some councils demand that you organise the permit. Annoying, we know. However, the process is simple and most of the time, you can organise it over the phone. Councils like Wandsworth and most Scottish councils will need you to fill out paperwork. Skip Hire London – What is a skip permit?
Quite simply, a skip permit is permission from the local council to allow us to drop a skip on their highway.
The main bulk of our skip permit ordering is for London. This is not only because London is our busiest area for skip hire but also because the city is so densely built up, so there’s not a lot of private land going spare. Therefore most of our London skip hire customers always ask if we can sort out a permit. Most of the time, it’s fine but with some councils (stand up Wandsworth!) demand that the hirer – (you) – organises the permit with them. Price-wise, they can range from £25 to amounts in the triple figures, depending on whether it is in a Controlled Parking Zone, or if it is in a park bay which needs to be suspended etc. It’s a bit of a pain and it’s seems like an unnecessary amount of money to spend. However, if we drop a skip on the highway without a permit (which of course, we wouldn’t do!), the penalties are much worse…

Skip Hire In London
Just a reminder that we cover the whole of London from Cockfosters to Tooting and from Acton to Walthamstowe.
In fact skip hire in London is our busiest and most popular bit of the UK for skip hire, whether it’s for domestic or trade skip hire.
One thing that crops up in London more than anywhere else is the need for skip permits. With it being the capital city, and the way the city has been built, driveways on domestic properties are not as common, so this increases the need for to obtain a skip permit.
